Caregiving Groups

Workshops for Family Caregivers

You are a Family Caregiver if you provide any type of care for your:

  • Aging Parents
  • Grandparents
  • Disabled Spouse

You must be exhausted by the number roles you play - caring for your loved one, providing for your own children, complying with the demands of work, getting dinner or the table - Whew! Much is expected of you, and you probably receive little praise You wish you could do more, but the guilt and the laundry keep piling up.

No matter the type of care you provide - whether it’s daily check-ins, financial assistance and budgeting, cleaning and laundry, or more intensive physical care and hygiene - you could probably use some extra help, support, and resources.

I offer two types of therapy groups to meet your specific needs:

CAREGIVING 101 and CAREGIVER SUPPORT

Caregiving 101

Caregiving 101 is a 10-week education and resource group for the family caregiver who needs more than support! Using a combination of lecture and group discussion, I play a very active role in this group, providing applicable resources and information on the following topics:

  • Caregiver Health, Stress, and Burnout
  • Self-Care and Respite Care
  • Role Reversal: The Relationship between Caregiver and Care-Recipient
  • Coping Skills for the Caregiver
  • Conflict with Family Members Over Care
  • The Caregiving Superhero: Learning to Ask For and Accept Help from Others
  • Anticipatory Grief and Grieving the Good Ole Days
  • The Extra Burden of Memory Loss
  • Little Energy Left for the Rest of Life
  • The Spiritual Gifts and Burdens of Caregiving

As a member of Caregiving 101, you will...

  • Learn how to manage the intense, often polarized thoughts and feelings that come with being a family caregiver.
  • Learn how to implement coping skills that make the caregiving role less stressful.
  • Learn how to ask for help and distribute tasks among other family members.
  • Learn organizational skills to help keep your life balanced, in spite of caregiving demands.
  • Receive referral information for other caregiving services (respite care, elder care attorneys, online caregiving forums, etc!)
  • Meet other family caregivers in your area and feel encouraged by them.

You will never walk away from Caregiving 101 empty-handed.

Caregiver Support

Do you need a safe place where you can talk honestly about your caregiving struggles with other family caregivers who truly understand? Encourage one another, share resources, and stamp out loneliness with this group!

I facilitate this group using a hands-off approach by allowing you and other caregivers to share your struggles and encourage one another. I recognize that this group may be the only safe place you have to discuss your caregiving concerns.
